What is a portable oxygen concentrator?

For those of you who have only used large oxygen concentrators, you may not be aware that portable oxygen concentrators can open up your world again.  Essentially portable oxygen concentrators are small versions of the concentrators you may have already experienced at home or in hospital.  They work on internal batteries, which can be recharged or swapped out when they run low on power, or you can connect the unit to a DC power supply.  As the name suggests they are easy to take around by using a pull along trolley or a handy over the shoulder carry bag.
